RHA® Fillers in Newport Beach

The RHA® Collection is something truly exceptional. Unlike other fillers, RHA® is designed to adapt to your dynamic facial movements, ensuring a natural and beautiful appearance that doesn’t feel stiff or artificial. Whether smiling, laughing, or simply going about your day, RHA seamlessly integrates with your facial expressions for a truly authentic look. That’s why Dr. Goretti Ho Taghva and her team of aesthetic experts are thrilled to bring this anti-aging solution to Orange County women and men.

How Does RHA® Work?

RHA is crafted using a gentle manufacturing process that preserves the natural structure of hyaluronic acid (HA). This ensures that RHA feels more like the HA in your skin, providing a harmonious and integrated result. By minimizing the alteration of the HA molecule, RHA offers a cleaner and more authentic beauty experience.

During an RHA treatment, your Newport Beach injector will use a tiny needle to inject a small amount of the filler into the areas you want to improve. Once injected, the hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules, plumping up the treated area and making it look fuller and smoother.

Types of RHA:

Right now, there are four RHA fillers available in the U.S., each with different levels of crosslinking:

  • RHA 2 is super flexible and great for smoothing out moderate folds. It’s perfect for tackling those pesky radial cheek lines (the “accordion lines”) and lipstick lines around the mouth. Plus, it works well for lip augmentation and even under the eyes.
  • RHA 3 has a firmer texture and is ideal for moderate to severe facial folds. Providers often use it to smooth out smile lines and address the corners of the mouth.
  • RHA 4 is the firmest option, designed for deeper injections. It’s excellent for tackling deep wrinkles and severe folds, like nasolabial folds and marionette lines, plus it helps enhance the chin and jawline.
  • Lastly, RHA Redensity is the newest addition, specifically created for moderate to severe wrinkles around the mouth. It effectively targets those fine lines (often called marionette) including barcode, smoker, and lipstick lines.

Is RHA® Right For Me?

Here’s what to consider when trying to figure out if you’re a good RHA candidate:

  • Age: Generally, you should be at least 22 years old. But no worries, if you’ve got deeper lines at a younger age! We can talk about your options.
  • Skin concerns: Are you dealing with those pesky lines around your nose and mouth or those crow’s feet? Or maybe your cheeks are looking a bit flat? RHA can help with all of that.
  • Restore lost volume: Our skin loses volume and elasticity as we age. RHA fillers can help restore fullness to the cheeks, lips, and temples, giving your face a youthful and plump appearance.
  • Health: Ensure you’re in good general health and haven’t had any major allergic reactions to injectables. This will help for a smooth treatment.
  • Expectations: Be realistic about what RHA can do. It’s great for improving lines and wrinkles, but it’s not a magic wand.

Before your appointment, let your aesthetic injector know about:

  • Any underlying health issues, like diabetes or autoimmune diseases.
  • Have you ever had a bad reaction to fillers, Botox, or other injectables?
  • Any pills, potions, or supplements you’re taking.
  • If you have a history of bleeding easily, let your doctor know.
  • If you’re expecting or breastfeeding, RHA might not be the best choice.
  • Let your doctor know If you’re considering having a chemical peel or laser treatment soon.

What Can I Treat With RHA® Fillers?

RHA is specifically approved for treating dynamic lines and wrinkles on the lower half of the face. This includes nasolabial folds, those deep lines that extend from your nose to your mouth, and smoker’s lines, the fine lines that form around the lips due to repeated puckering or smoking. RHA’s ability to adapt to facial movements makes it an ideal choice for these areas, as it ensures a natural and expressive appearance even after treatment.

When Will I See Results?

You’ll notice your initial results right away after the treatment. Your results will look even better as the swelling goes down, which usually takes a week or two. So, hang in there, the best is yet to come!

How Long Do RHA® Results Last?

The results of RHA treatments are long-lasting. RHA can last up to 15 months In dynamic wrinkles and folds and can provide results for up to a year for lipstick lines. Most other hyaluronic acid fillers typically last around a year for any area treated.

The longevity of RHA Collection fillers can vary from person to person. Generally, how long they last depends on where the filler is placed—areas that move more often tend to “burn through” the filler faster—as well as your metabolism and how your body reacts.

We’ll carefully assess your needs and goals to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your requirements.

These long-lasting fillers can last up to 15 months in dynamic wrinkles and folds and 1 year in lipstick lines.

Aftercare and Healing

Most people don’t experience any downtime, but some swelling and bruising are normal. It can take up to two weeks for all the swelling to subside, so you’ll see your final results by then.

By following these aftercare tips, you can help minimize side effects and ensure optimal results from your RHA dermal filler treatment:

  • Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for at least a few days. This can help prevent the filler from moving out of place, potentially causing uneven results.
  • Applying ice packs to the treated area can help reduce swelling and discomfort. Use a clean cloth or ice pack wrapped in a thin towel to protect your skin. Apply ice for 15-20 minutes, several times a day.
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure or heat for the first 24 hours. Extreme temperatures can affect the healing process and potentially cause discomfort.
  • Alcohol can thin your blood and increase the risk of bleeding, so avoid it for at least 24 hours after your treatment.
  • Rest and avoid strenuous activity for 1-2 days. This will help reduce swelling and promote healing.
  • Drinking plenty of water is essential for maintaining optimal hydration and supporting the healing process. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.
  • Sleeping with your head elevated on pillows can help reduce swelling and discomfort, especially during the first few nights.
  • Smoking can delay healing and increase the risk of complications, so avoid it for at least 72 hours after your treatment.
  • To keep your skin hydrated and supple apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to the treated area.
  • If you’re experiencing pain or discomfort, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers like Tylenol.
  • For a few days after your treatment, avoid medications or supplements that can thin your blood and increase the risk of bleeding. This includes aspirin and ibuprofen.

How to Prepare for RHA®

Before your RHA injection appointment, here’s how you can set yourself up for a smooth procedure and recovery:

  • Give those blood thinners a break for a couple of weeks. Aspirin and other anticoagulants can make you bleed more.
  • Avoid alcohol for a few days before your treatment.
  • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin healthy and hydrated.
  • Try to avoid intense workouts the day before your appointment. You don’t want to be extra sore or risk bruising.
  • Make sure your face is clean and makeup-free on the day of your appointment.
  • Tell your Newport Beach injector about any medications you’re taking, even if they seem minor. Also, let us know about previous facial treatments or if you have health conditions.

RHA® vs. Other Fillers: What’s the Difference?

You may be wondering, what makes RHA fillers so special compared to other fillers like JUVÉDERM® or Restylane®? Here are the main reasons RHA fillers shine when it comes to helping you feel like your best self:

Where they’re used

RHA fillers are specifically designed to target dynamic wrinkles, which are those lines that form and disappear as you move your facial muscles. Examples include smile lines (nasolabial folds), crow’s feet, and marionette lines. Over time, these repeated facial expressions cause these wrinkles. On the other hand, other HA fillers, are more commonly used to address static wrinkles, these are lines that are visible even when your face is relaxed. These include deep lines in the forehead, around the mouth, and in the cheeks.

Flexibility

RHA fillers are unique in their ability to adapt to your facial movements. They are more flexible and resilient than traditional HA fillers, allowing them to move naturally with your expressions without appearing stiff or artificial. This is crucial for achieving a natural and youthful appearance.

Results

RHA fillers are known for producing natural-looking, undetectable results. The results are often visible within 24-48 hours, and the final results typically appear within two to three days. These results can last up to 15 months, longer than many other HA fillers.

Manufacturing

The manufacturing process for RHA fillers is distinct from that of other HA fillers. RHA fillers are processed at a lower temperature and undergo a special cross-linking method that preserves more of the natural structure of the HA molecule. This results in a filler that is more compatible with your skin and less likely to cause adverse reactions.

Combining treatments

RHA fillers can be effectively combined with Botox injections for even more comprehensive results. Botox is used to relax facial muscles and reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Combining RHA fillers with Botox can target static and dynamic wrinkles for a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

RHA is more compatible with your skin and less likely to cause adverse reactions.

Is RHA® Safe?

RHA fillers are generally very safe, especially when administered by a qualified professional. The most common side effects are bruising and swelling around the injection site. You can help minimize these by avoiding alcohol and blood thinners like aspirin and fish oil before your treatment.

Sometimes, you might notice little bumps called nodules. These usually go away with a bit of massage. Massaging the area after your treatment may be recommended.

The biggest risk with any filler is accidentally injecting it into a blood vessel. This can cause tissue damage, vision problems, or even stroke if it’s not treated quickly. This is very rare in experienced hands.

Frequently Asked Questions About RHA Fillers

Getting treated with RHA Collection fillers usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour.

Does RHA® hurt?

RHA injections are usually comfortable. Most people describe it as a quick pinch or pressure. This is because the filler contains lidocaine, a numbing agent, and your doctor will likely also apply a topical numbing cream or use local injections to make the procedure even more painless.
